UMCH Higher Education Homes

UMCH Higher Education Homes

In partnership with the higher education institutions in Tuscaloosa and Florence we provide a higher education for college age foster youth in both areas. Providing these two homes allows UMCH to care for foster youth for longer periods of their life cycle, ensuring greater continuity and stability in their lives.

To provide college age foster students a stable and loving environment where they can seek a better life through faith in Christ and a higher education. The goal is to cultivate growth in individuals that focus on academics, spiritual and social aspects tailored to each student’s needs.

Students must be accepted to a higher education institution in Tuscaloosa or Florence before applying for the Knabe Scholarship. The student must have a 2.5 GPA, demonstrate good moral character and demonstrate leadership skills.

* A limited number of scholarships are available to those under a 2.5 GPA.

Scholarship Recipients will be known as Knabe Scholars. Knabe Scholars will be automatically awarded subsequent scholarships as long as the following requirements are met:

  • 2.5 GPA is maintained
  • Knabe Scholar is on track to graduate according to guidelines the scholarship committee has established
  • Knabe Scholar continues to display good moral character
  • Knabe Scholar adheres to all policies of the scholarship home
