Rev. Leigh Meekins
Rev. Leigh Meekins is a member of the Governance Committee and liaison for the Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) Committee. She is a native Alabamian, spending her formative years in Birmingham. Leigh attended Birmingham - Southern College, receiving a B.A. in Religion and Education.
Following graduation from college she enrolled in Duke University’s Divinity School where she earned a Masters in Religious Education. In furthering her education, Leigh received a Master of Education from Troy University in 2008. Leigh has currently completed all the course work for a Ph.D. in Education from Capella University and anticipates completing the dissertation in the summer of 2012.
In 1994, Leigh was commissioned as Diaconal Minister and then in 1998 was ordained a deacon in full connection in the United Methodist Church. She has served in the role of Minister of Children’s Ministries and Christian Education in United Methodist Churches throughout the Southeast.
Leigh served as the Coordinator for Ministries with Children and then Director of Discipleship Ministries for the Alabama-West Florida Annual Conference from 2006-2011. In July, 2011 Leigh was appointed to school full time in order to complete her dissertation for her Ph.D. She also serves as the chair for the Order of Deacons for the Annual Conference as well as serving as a member of the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry.
