The Children who live in our group homes cannot live with their own families because of parental abuse, neglect or abandonment. We consider for placement into Residential Group Care those who are challenged with mild to moderate emotional and/or behavioral problems. They come together from varied socioeconomic, cultural, and religious backgrounds to live and to learn in a family-like atmosphere. Each child follows an individualized plan of care developed by our qualified caregivers. The plan leads to increased self-reliance, emotional stability, spiritual growth, and interpersonal competence. Each program can care for six to eight children between the ages of 11 and 18. When it is safe to do so, we make every effort to involve family members in the children's lives. When this is not possible, we work with community members to provide opportunities for family involvement outside of the group home. We take private placements from families and look at each case to determine fees. State and county child welfare offices also place children with us. Private gifts are vital to this program. Many families who place children privately are only able to pay a fraction of the cost of care. Even government offices only pay for half of what we need to give these children what many have never had--a home where they feel welcome and loved. Children ServedYoungsters between the ages of 6 and 18 with mild to moderate emotional and/or behavior problems are considered for placement. Children who are psychotic, homicidal or suicidal, or who have been adjudicated delinquent are not considered for residential group care, but may be appropriate for one of our other programs. Referral ProcedureThe United Methodist Children's Home accepts referrals from public agencies (DHR) and private sources (individuals, ministers, counselors, private social service agencies, etc.). Referrals should be directed to the Program Supervisor (see web links to group homes). LocationsWe offer this program in the following locations: |
