As a child, our understanding of who we are is based on our family. However, when a child is removed from their birth family, they struggle with understanding who they are. They are in a new place, with strange people, and many times separated from their parents and siblings.
For many of our children, there is an overwhelming feeling of being unlovable. Part of our mission is to teach them about God, their heavenly Father who loves them and will never leave them.
As it is stated in Jeremiah 29:11, "God knows the plan He has for their lives, for a future of hope and to prosper," and we know it is God who has brought them to us. They are God's children and we are responsible to God for their nurturing care.
We provide Spiritual Life & Development as an important part of our ministry to these hurting children. One way we do this is by connecting our children with local United Methodist Churches in their area so they may participate in worship services, Sunday school, and children and youth activities.
Our children also attend summer programs at Camp Blue Lake and Camp Sumatanga. By being active in their local churches they can feel a part of a larger Christian family where they are not alone, where they are loved and where they can feel normal.
If the children were involved in a church of another denomination prior to their placement with us, we work to help them connect with a local church of that denomination. Working with the pastor, we connect them with a host family to help them truly feel a part of that church.
We also provide spiritual development opportunities for you, our family in Christ, through many volunteer missions. Find out more by following the links below.
