The Settlement

Dothan & Headland

At The Settlement, we can care for up to 10 boys and young men in a group home and in a transitional living home. The boys are educated in the public schools in the Dale County School District or are studying for their GED. Through the school system, they benefit from tutoring and, when available, special programs for at-risk children.

Tabernacle United Methodist Church offers its programs and services in which the children participate on a voluntary basis. We encourage them to take part in other extracurricular activities.

We work closely with the Alfred Saliba Family Resource Center in Dothan, Alabama. Boys benefit from job-skills training, a GED program, tutoring and more.

Local United Methodist churches and a dedicated volunteer advisory board support the programs here to a tremendous degree. They provide monetary help, volunteers for grounds maintenance, tutors and much more.

Highland Park United Methodist Church (UMC) in Dothan is a significant community resource to us, offering space for training, coordinating fun events for the children and providing other material support. First UMC in Dothan also provides space for meetings and foster parent training.

Other community churches provide material needs and Christmas help to our foster families and children. Kids are involved in the area's Boys & Girls Clubs and Girls, Inc., which provide summer and after-school activities, tutoring, and help with life- and job-skills training.
